German lampshade manufacturer Fritz Wauer – affectionately known as "Friedel" among friends – is often hailed as the "grandfather of cocoon lamps" and is credited by his peers with pioneering this groundbreaking technique in 1952.
Fritz Wauer's legacy in the realm of cocoon lamps is extensive; he went on to design over 400 foundational models in approximately 1,000 variations, spanning a range from modern to traditional designs, always with a focus on interior spaces and the art of living.
His innovative designs gained popularity not only in homes but also in commercial settings, adorning kindergartens, schools, hospitals, offices, hotels, and restaurants, and elevating his company, Goldkant Leuchten, to legendary status from 1946 to 1994.
Wauer's pioneering spirit and creative vision enriched the lighting industry with a diverse array of groundbreaking collections, leaving an indelible mark on the world of lighting design.
